Najib will bring BN to speedy end

By :   kickdefella

The late Tun Abdul Razak engineered the construction of Barisan Nasional and brought back democracy to the country. Gerakan and PAS were among the new members of the coalition from Peninsular Malaysia.

Although PAS was forced to leave BN less then a decade later, yet, under Mahathir Mohamed, BN become much stronger despites some chaotic moments in Sabah.

BN reached its pinnacle in 2004, some said due to the new breathe by the new leader, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi whom during that time was famously known as Mr. Clean. While others believe the huge mandate was a way some Malaysian voters wanted to thank Tun Dr. Mahathir who left office few months before the election. I was among those who voted MCA Candidate in order to thank Tun.

When Mahathir made the announcement about his retirement, many who were neither strong supporters of BN nor believer of UMNO felt that the country soon would be facing an uncertain future. Although we do shared the sorrows and grievances faced by many due to strong and forceful policies on national security during Mahathir’s time, yet the majority cherished.

Despites all the so-called bailouts, we always managed to crawl back and stand up. Yes, during those times, we stood tall in the eye of the world. And Mahathir did it against all odds. Please don’t hide those facts away.

Nevertheless, if Mahathir were given another chance, forget about his age factor, but take into consideration how the aging world has fast change, I doubt he will be able to continue to serve us like before. He is one of a kind, yes, yet he is only a man for his era.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over the country when the world is facing monumental changes. Mahathir retired at the brink of digital changes that he always dreamt and played a part, with cautious. Abdullah tried to govern the country in moderation but beside his flip-flop decision, the conservativeness in UMNO help to fasten his exit. UMNO had until today failed to face the changing world and the new generation. Will UMNO ever capable to change and re-brand itself?

The brand called UMNO is a laughing stock for the new generation. It does not suite the new transparent world. UMNO can never grow any younger because it is full of young leader whom too fond of old UMNO strategy.

A beautiful doctored photo of Najib as it appeared in Rocky’s Bru

Will Najib capable of bringing UMNO down to its knee to be knighted by the new generation? I seriously doubt it. I never doubt Najib’s capabilities to govern UMNO and make it stronger again. Najib has all the talent to make UMNO, the ‘UMNO’ again. But by doing so, Najib will only bring down the legacy of his late father.

A stronger UMNO will only pose death to BN. A stronger UMNO will mean more corruption to fill the thirsty Division leaders. A stronger UMNO will mean more divide and rule concepts. A stronger UMNO will mean more racial problems.

A stronger UMNO will mean arrogance!

Even at its weakest point in life, UMNO members remain arrogance. While some of them happily agreed with the opposition and point the finger to Abdullah, they as usual failed to see their four fingers are pointing back at them. What brought Abdullah down is not the opposition, but UMNO itself. The oppositions are merely taking advantage by pouring petrol into the already open burning within UMNO. Sooner than expected UMNO succumbed to the opposition’s psychological warfare and they themselves butchered Abdullah, as what the opposition wanted them to do.

When Abdullah took office, he is praised as the clean man and with all the combinations of factors and reforms, he almost wiped out the PKR and PAS from Parliament and recapture Kelantan. He had unite the Malay like nothing ever been seen since 1986.

Who had made it impossible for Abdullah to bring reform? Remember IPCMC as an example? A lot of protest came within UMNO itself. Who had collaborated in organising a campaign to bring Abdullah down before the PRU 12, well it is certain UMNO members itself? Soon, in order to survive the UMNO, Abdullah had to succumb to money politics and dived into the world of corrupt politics filled with cronyism and nepotism.

For the third time, I will repeat myself, Abdullah came into power as a clean man and the morale of the story is, Najib is not. Whether Najib is clean or not it is not the issue, the issue is, Najib is not perceived as a clean man. Najib came with heavy liability hanging over his head. Najib is followed everywhere with the burden of undisputed psychological warfare by the oppositions. No doubt that Najib definitely will be able to handle these, as the he is currently the undisputed toughest man from UMNO.

Unfortunately, Najib is not known as reformer. Many already perceived that Najib would bring UMNO back to the way it is managed under Mahathir. Najib has read well what happen to his predecessor for going against Tun. He will not repeat the mistake but to follow and obey the Great Man but by doing so under the current climatic problem world which rapidly being re-craft by the wind of change would only mark disaster to UMNO’s partner in BN.

Najib has to choose to either bring UMNO to its knee or being remembered as the son who crumbled his father’s legacy. Reading by politics in UMNO since PRU12, UMNO would remain stubborn in keeping status quo and UMNO blood, is surely very thick in Najib than others.

UMNO under Najib soon will only be the same UMNO, crippled by money politics, lingered with the smell of hatred and run by those who adored corrupt practices. These is the brand call UMNO, hiding behind the word “Agama, Bangsa dan Negara”.

Come PRU13, some who voted the opposition will return to vote for UMNO for its promise of Malay superiority while the new generation and the rest of non-Malays will continue their fight to be Malaysian.

It would be tough for Najib, who until today about to be the only UMNO president voted into the presidency without the pleasure and power of becoming the Prime Minister first.

Altantuya...her last moments...& her last words

[From a statutory declaration dated 1 July 2008, signed by Balasubramaniam a/l Perumal, private investigator...]

On Oct 19, 2006, I arrived at Abdul Razak Baginda’s house in Damansara Heights to begin my night duty. I had parked my car outside as usual. I saw a yellow Proton Perdana taxi pass by with three ladies inside, one of whom was Aminah. The taxi did a U-turn and stopped in front of the house where these ladies rolled down the window and wished me ‘Happy Deepavali.’ The taxi then left.

About 20 minutes later the taxi returned with only Aminah in it. She got out of the taxi and walked towards me and started talking to me. I sent an SMS to Abdul Razak Baginda informing him “Aminah was here.” I received an SMS from Razak instructing me “to delay her until my man comes.”

Whist I was talking to Aminah, she informed me of the following:

i) That she met Abdul Razak Baginda in Singapore with Najib Razak.

ii) That she had also met Abdul Razak Baginda and Najib Razak at a dinner in Paris.

iii) That she was promised a sum of US$500,000.00 as commission for assisting in a submarine deal in Paris.

iv) That Abdul Razak Baginda had bought her a house in Mongolia but her brother had refinanced it and she needed money to redeem it.

v) That her mother was ill and she needed money to pay for her treatment.

vi) That Abdul Razak Baginda had married her in Korea as her mother is Korean whilst her father was a Mongolian/Chinese mix.

vii) That if I wouldn’t allow her to see Abdul Razak Baginda, would I be able to arrange for her to see Najib Razak.

After talking to Aminah for about 15 minutes, a red Proton Aeroback arrived with a woman and two men. I now know the woman to be lance corporal Rohaniza and the men, Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azahar. They were all in plainclothes. Azilah walked towards me while the other two stayed in the car.

Azilah asked me whether the woman was Aminah and I said “Yes”. He then walked off and made a few calls on his handphone. After 10 minutes another vehicle, a blue Proton Saga, driven by a Malay man, passed by slowly. The driver's window had been wound down and the driver was looking at us.

Azilah then informed me they would be taking Aminah away. I informed Aminah they were arresting her. The other two persons then got out of the red Proton and exchanged seats so that lance corporal Rohaniza and Aminah were in the back while the two men were in the front. They drove off and that is the last I ever saw of Aminah.

I don't know where they are taking me. At first I thought they would take me to the police station and question me, but we seem to be going away from the city. Maybe they are taking me to the airport and throwing me out of the country. More than half an hour later the car enters a gated driveway leading to a double-storey bungalow in a big garden. It's a very quiet area and I have no idea where I am. I feel very worried about the situation, but I try my best to look calm.

One of the men tells the lady something in Malay and she nods and returns to the car. The men then push me inside the house and force me to go upstairs. I am beginning to feel frightened, because this is definitely not a police station. What will they do to me?

One man opens a bedroom door and the other pushes me inside. I fear they may try to rape me as we appear to be alone in this big house. The men ask me for my handbag and they take away my watch, cellphone and jewelry. Then they push me inside a big empty wardrobe and shut the door. It is very dark and musty inside and I hear a key turning in the wardrobe door. I hear the men's voices discussing something, then they leave the room, and I am alone in the total darkness. I can hear my heart pounding very loudly. The sound of traffic from a great distance tells me we are quite far from the city.

I have no sense of time. I may have dozed off after an hour, I can't be sure. My stomach is growling, so it must be long after dinner time. I feel stiff and uncomfortable and my bladder is ready to burst. Amy must be wondering why I am not back at the hotel yet. I hope she will call Ang to enquire about me at the police station. That Razak is a coward. He dare not face me. Instead he has asked the police to kidnap me....

There are voices in the room and a key turns. The wardrobe door opens and I see several figures as my eyes adjust to the light. They are wearing black hoods and I can see only their eyes - but two of them are women. I am dragged out roughly and pushed on the floor. Now I am really scared. These people are dangerous, they are not behaving like police officers at all, more like members of a secret society.

While one of the hooded men lifts me off the floor, the large woman is shouting angrily at me, calling me all kinds of names. Suddenly she steps forward and slaps me very hard across the face - again and again and again - while my arms are held tight by the men. Tears sting my raw cheeks and I tell her stop but she keeps hitting me and spitting in my face.

She calls me a dirty prostitute and says I deserve to die. I don't know who this woman is but she is totally crazy, like a demon. Sometimes she shouts at me in English and then she says something in Malay. The other woman steps forward and tears the front of my dress with great force. She pulls off my bra and gags me with it, and then she yanks down my panties, so they are around my ankles.

The men push me to the floor and take turns raping me. One tries to sodomize me but gives up and forces himself into my mouth instead. I bite him and he screams in pain and hits my head very hard, till I almost lose consciousness. This is a horrible nightmare. It can't be happening to me! Who are these insane people? They can't be policemen! They are monsters! I can hear the large woman laughing like a witch...

Suddenly I am looking at the scene from somewhere above. My body is badly bruised and almost numb with shock. It's a strange feeling, to feel so detached from my body. I feel no anger. Only sadness and pity for my attackers who are so depraved they are no longer human. I know I will never see my family and friends again, because these people intend to kill me.

I am back in my body and it hurts all over. The woman is mercilessly beating me with a cane and kicking me while the others stand back. She keeps whacking my genitals until I feel nothing... then I am thankfully out of my body again.

I watch my unconscious body being carried downstairs. They tape my mouth shut and tie my hands and feet tight with plastic rope. Then they throw me into the back of a 4-wheel-drive and slam the door shut. The vehicle drives off, followed by two other cars.

After a long time the 4-wheel-drive stops and a few people climb into it. The road is very bad and bumpy but I am hovering close to my body, observing everything that happens. There is no more sound of traffic. We must be in the jungle somewhere because all I can hear are insects chirping loudly, and heavy breathing as my body is placed on a stretcher and carried by two men along a jungle path.

When they finally stop and put down the stretcher I hear the woman's voice again. Cold water is thrown on my face and I return to my body with a jerk. Slowly I try to open my eyes but I can't focus on anything because it is very dark, except for the flashlights carried by a few of my abductors. The woman's voice is very close to my ear as she hisses: "So long, Aminah. Lovely to meet you at last. Have a pleasant journey." She laughs grotesquely and rips off the tape covering my mouth. "I want to hear you scream. Do you have any last words... dear Aminah?" She has removed her hood so I can see her face. It's a very cruel face indeed. The others are not wearing hoods but I don't know who they are, but the large woman is obviously their boss.

Out of the corner of my eye I catch the metallic gleam of a gun near my face and I know this is the end of my story. I gather my strength and say as calmly and clearly as possible, so they will hear every word: "You are evil people. I curse you forever. You will never know peace again." I feel myself transforming into a mother wolf, ready to pounce in defence of her cubs...

Then I hear a click and there is blinding flash. I am floating ten feet above my twitching body. After a while I see someone attaching something to my now lifeless body. I cannot believe they intend to blow up my corpse with explosives, so nobody will ever find my bones!

I look up and see a beautiful blue sky. The sun shines brilliantly over the distant mountains. I can hear voices singing in overtones the ancient melodies of the great steppes where my ancestors hunted and fought their battles. Suddenly I am flying like an eagle over the rugged landscape that feels so familiar. I am free as a bird and I am home at last.

Mahathir-Najib Conspiracy

THE DATES THAT EXPOSED THE MASTER CRIMINALS AT WORK

The exact dates Anwar received the support and assurance from the BN MPs cannot be ascertained by us. While, all these MPs have indicated support for Anwar, pending his return to Parliament, we can only approximate the beginning dates where initial negotiations were taking place, between end March 2008 and mid April 2008. This was the period immediately after the general election.

The master network of Mahathir is large! It spreads across the country. Their network has detected this movement from Anwar!

The criminals at work!

A clear picture of the crimes of these two evils are described here in the chronology of dates beginning 11th. May 2008.

11th. May 2008 – Najib met Mahathir (It is here the drama began, started by Mahathir in calling Najib a coward in April. The big evil engineered the small evil Najib to its front door. Needless to say the true drama that is going to be unfolded for the next few months began here, only to be polished later!)

The period between 12th May and 28th. June 2008, where all the make-up men, artists and props were designed to perfection to stage this truly Malaysian Mahathir-Najib drama! The drama needed to be staged fast to deprive Anwar from entering Parliament. On 19th. May, as per their master plan Mahathir left UMNO, together with Sanusi, etc. This created much interest amongst Malaysians and the international community, distracting every one from the actual complex drama that is being staged by Najib.

29th. June 2008 – Police report was filed by Saiful. Anwar took shelter at the Turkish Embassy. The international community condemned the police report. Their first drama nearly backfired. While the proof of innocence falls on Anwar’s shoulder, the enemy is not waiting to waste time on this anymore, because the rest will be taken care of by their junior conspirators, to ensure that Anwar will be forever distracted and remain engaged in the framed-up sodomy.

16th. July 2008 – The enemies arrested Anwar and locked him up overnight. This was the day Anwar supposed to announce the resignation of his wife from the parliamentary seat. It was shelved. The world condemned and too many voices called for the release of Anwar. They had no choice. Anwar was released the next day. The criminal’s first plan backfired completely. Please note that the criminals were aware of Anwar’s every move, while Anwar was totally ignorant of plots against him. This is how all action-packed dramas are staged. We the people, the innocent fools watch silently not knowing whether there was a drama in the first place. We are always distracted by these criminals, who are so used to get what they want from us. They always show us their good side. This is what we call a plot within another plot! They will be at their best, when they engineer the worst!

31st July 2008 - Wan Azizah informed the press that she is resigning as a member of parliament.

6th August 2008 –The date of nomination and election was announced by the Election Commission. The enemies also announced that Anwar must appear at the police station, on 7th August, to formally charge him on the sodomy case. The criminals were planning again one more time before Anwar file in his nominations. This time to bury his political career once and for all. And lock him up for good after the formal charge.

“This is the actual time the criminals were furious with Raja Petra. Raja Petra became their deadliest enemy for releasing Dr Osman’s SD on the same day at the point of arrest. Their plot again failed. Failed miserably. Anwar was saved by Raja Petra on this very crucial date. As expected on 7th August, Anwar was formally charged, but not detained in the lock-up.”

10th August to 25th August 2008 - The criminals were trying very hard to destroy Anwar’s political career between these dates. Anwar was alerted and our postings were featured in Malaysia Today warning Anwar of the plot to disqualify him on technical errors on his nomination papers. Anwar engaged another proxy should he be disqualified. Attempts were made on that day to disqualify Anwar, but the criminals got frighten after seeing

Anwar’s huge crowd. The BN government brought its entire government machineries to canvass at Permatang Pauh. A foreign journalist told us; practically the capital of Malaysia was shifted to Permatang Pauh during these dates. Leaving the Parliament as a white elephant without MPs to transact its normal business. It was unprecedented in Malaysian election history. Mahathir’s silence during this canvassing period was telling. For he and he alone knew, no way Anwar can be defeated in his home turf. Those who try are fools indeed! Najib headed this election campaign. The only catch phrase the entire leadership of UMNO was coached to speak about was sodomy, not their election agenda. Umno leaders and members were fools not knowing what game was being played by these two evils, except Tengku Razaleigh and Abdullah Badawi, for they knew too well what happens when these two evils get together.

Swearing and more swearing. While the testimony of Romlan did help, the entry of Tok Guru Nik Aziz during the last days of canvassing despite his illness changed the entire scenario. We believe this is the point of time Tok Guru knew what was really happening and what the evils were up to. Anwar won by a huge majority. Huge cracks appeared in the criminals’ next course of actions. But they were not defeated by their cruel fantasies!

The evils plot on the night of defeat!

On this night of defeat, the criminals plotted to ban access to Malaysia Today and other “offensive” websites. They have to put a permanent stop to the ever increasing “danger” of Raja Petra and gangs. They started with Malaysia Today. The cries of the people went louder! Friends, please note that no one has accepted claim to this evil action so far! Each is trying to protect another, for they too are fools manufactured under Mahathir’s factory! The proprietor of this factory may have changed, but the products manufactured remain the same!

The most sickening move of all is to plot to revise the budget of this country. To revise budget 2009 to appease Sabah and Sarawak. What sort of evils are these, running this country at the whims and fancies of their crooked minds! Don’t they have a limit to their nonsense! Or they need to transgress all boundaries of morality to achieve their twisted aims! These are true evils at work!

28th. August 2008 – Anwar was sworn in as a member of parliament. Najib and Abdullah were absent. Perhaps this was the first day Mahathir looked really an outcast, with Anwar inside the parliament. Najib turned up only the next day, being the Budget day. That was the first time in the history of Malaysia; the budget was revised during the last moment to fit in the development programme for Sabah and Sarawak. This we knew was the work of Najib misleading Abdullah, the day before when both were absent in the parliament house. Najib was being educated well. Mahathir knew from the beginning that Anwar had the numbers. All these MPs would defect only if Anwar becomes an MP. Mahathir and Najib were plotting this game well. But Anwar is not stupid this time. He already prepared a much better reform programme which is more workable to the current and future well-beings of Malaysia. Anwar criticized Abdullah’s budget for lacking competitiveness, which our economists agree.

5th September 2008 – Dr Osman appeared in front of the media for the first time. This has shaken Najib, a little. The criminals need to plan for their next course of action, but have to cover their tracts too. This is the delay they cannot afford. He knew now there is no way to implicate Anwar, bearing in mind that Anwar was also privy to KL General Hospital (2nd report), which Anwar declared during election campaigning.( Incidentally, the second report has also nullified Anwar from any wrong-doing.)

Najib’s anger naturally would turn to Raja Petra as the main culprit who seems to be a constant stumbling block to all his grand plans. It was Malaysia Today which released the SD first. Najib knew unlike the private investigator’s SD, he cannot fix up the SD of Dr. Osman this time around, because he already appeared in public to attest to the SD he made!

5th September to 10th September 2008 – This is the most crucial dates in their next grand plan. Their constant companion and an excellent scapegoat. Muhyiddin met up (the evil word is summoned) with Mahathir. Their grand plan is to get rid of Abdullah. And they also need to fix up Anwar, by transferring Anwar’s case to the High court. They need to kill several birds but with many stones, unfortunately they aren’t many left. Transferring the case to high court would be an easy plan, as Abdul Gani Patail is their own guardian at law. This is also the dates where Muhyiddin was instructed to inform Najib to proceed with their last game plan, to convince Abdullah to implement the Operasi Lallang in disguise (Mahathir’s specialty, in times of duress.) Main target Anwar and Raja Petra. Strongest weapon, Islam and condemnation of leaders for Raja Petra. Threat of national security and financial security for Anwar. This factory does not seem to run out of product lines! But for how long!

The scheming Najib, with suggestions from the evil, Mahathir, also need to ensure that if everything else fails, his only recourse is time, which is falling short. His back-benchers club must be sent out to an unknown nation to study new techniques of producing newer products, which they need badly, as the product lines needed to be improved constantly with changing taste and time.

10th September 2008 – Anwar’s legal team was taken by surprise, not knowing that the prosecutors planned to transfer the case to high court. The case was fixed for 24th September. Hearing completed. Judgment from Justice Komathy on 7th October 2008., in favour of Anwar. The case will remain in the lower court.

But on this same date 10th September. Muhyiddin made an announcement that Mahathir is interested in joining Umno, and the evil Mahathir made the same announcement. They always make “good” announcements in Malaysia to distract Malaysians from their crooked plots! This is a part of their grand strategy, protecting Najib, as otherwise Abdullah would not be happy. The crooked Najib must always be seen as neutral in these criminals’ grand plan. Abdullah is a sacrificial cow in Najib’s hand, when comes to implementations of tougher actions. He is a scapegoat used by Khairy for monetary issues of the government. A sleepy head Prime minister. Always dream big but poor in implementing all that he wants. A crook with his own boundary! A flip-flop man with a flip-flop team! All he needs, comforts and luxuries with no work done.

11th September 2008 – This is the most important date of the evil calendar. How many of the evils have met up, we don’t know. Probably 5 to 7. We can tell you there are police, law and order, and BN leaders. We are not naming them, we are not certain completely.

Agenda of meeting:

1) To create confusion, instigating racist sentiments amongst people so that Anwar’s agenda of taking over the government will not materialize. Any pea-sized brain will tell you; this is the specialization area of Khir Toyo! What a gift in waiting with Kelana Jaya gathering around the corner! Did he attend the meeting?

2) To arrest Raja Petra and detain him for good under ISA. Any pea-sized brain will tell you; this is a moment of opportune for Syed Hamid who is yet to reply to Raja Petra’s letter seeking indemnities. (Raja Petra’s letter was sent on 9th Sept, with ultimatum for action by 12th Sept). Did he attend the meeting?

3) To detain Teresa Kok, Sin Chew reporter (last minute added in, because Ahmad Ismail camp was not happy that he alone was punished) under ISA. This is their style. The government of the day can be run even by racist crooks, if their power base seems threatened in any way! These arrests are needed to create confusions and anger so that the public can take to the streets. Easing the way for interested parties to clamp down the country with an emergency rule! Any pea-sized brain will tell you, if all the arms of government are working together, they must have the yes man, Ismail Omar, to tag along. Did he attend the meeting!

4) To arrest Anwar Ibrahim under ISA. The original date of his arrest planned immediately after Raja Petra’s arrest and before the Kelana Jaya gathering. If this does not work, then Khir Toyo specialist in monkey tricks can carry on with his act in the KL streets and if he fails there is a big circus waiting for him at Kelana Jaya! But to arrest Anwar, they have to face the condemnation of international communities. Were they prepared for it? Arrest they must! Any pea-sized brain can tell you that to arrest Anwar Ibrahim; you need the go-ahead from the two top men! Did Abdullah and Najib attend the meeting?

Raja Petra was arrested as planned on the 12th September, together with the other two. Huge outcries from the people and opposition leaders followed. Sin Chew reporter was released the next day, after a flip-flop announcement by Syed Hamid! The followers of orders normally are not experts in covering their tracts! Anwar must be arrested at all cost. More cries from the people and opposition leaders followed, including from their own camp, probably these off mould products do not conform to their “stringent” standards! The criminals plan backfired. Khir Toyo’s plans too never succeeded! Huge outcries from the people but no one took the street! Khir began to know for the first time in his life, the other side of people’s power! The pale face of him shows! BN leadership headed by Najib deputized by Abdullah (this is how the world perceive), feared for the first time. Mahathir too, we were told, true to his crocodile fashion, sheepishly condemned the ISA. What a splendid act! The evil engineer who brutalized the nation for 22 years suddenly realized ISA is cruel! What he did no tell, he has seen and thought worst than that. His twisted-leftist-Mugabe brain constantly churning and scheming evils non-stop, suddenly ran short of “ideas”!

The arrest of Anwar was called off just for a while, while these two “geniuses” paused for a moment, with their MPs having learnt much in Taiwan, planning to study casinos in Macao!

The change of government that was announced by Anwar never took place on 16th. September 2008.

This is the pause the criminals needed for a moment to focus on the removal of Abdullah. This is the reason why the criminals have spared Anwar for a moment.

But Raja Petra must always remain under detention. If Raja Petra is released, then he will destroy all their evil plans. The criminals know this well.

17th September 2008 - Najib became the Finance Minister. Is Abdullah so kind to switch the portfolio or Najib was taking instruction to take over the finance ministry. Muhyiddin on the other hand, under instruction from evil Mahathir, to press Abdullah to bring forward Badawi’s stepping down date. Which Abdullah did, and announced he will step down in March. This announcement was made recently.

Are we fools to believe that Raja Petra’s case was adjourned for a long period of time until November 12, because the trial judge was too sick? Or Raja Petra must be kept away for a long period of time, for other “valid” reasons. But he must be kept away, like it or not! He is too dangerous when he is outside!

We will not comment on any event after 20th September, as a new set of events are unfolding. We are keeping track closely. Suffice to say at this time that Mukhriz will lose the election of Youth leader because Mahathir said so! If Mahathir says, then it is always true!

It is only Mahathir and Najib who know, the next game plan! Maybe there are others involved too in this scheme designed by the master conspirators.

Malaysia's Government is crumbling, but the Opposition is stumbling

Wednesday, 08 October 2008 08:25

THE AGE

Delmonico's, near Wall Street, is a bit like 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' in Douglas Adams' book of the same name. Get a window seat there right now and you can watch the universe end while you await your steak. But if you fancy tamer fare then try a restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Get a window seat there now and you'll be entertained by the end of the Malaysian Government.

The death throes of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi's Government are fascinating. Like someone who cannot swim but who has just been thrown overboard, Abdullah is grabbing at anything to try to save himself. So far, he's gone for that developing-world tool of choice: jailing dissenters. That's a pity because these days Malaysians are more sophisticated than that.

In the past few weeks, an Opposition politician has been arrested under Malaysia's outdated Internal Security Act, which allows for detention without trial, legal counsel, the right to defend yourself in court, or the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
The politician, who is ethnically Chinese, was detained for inciting religious and racial tension. Apparently she complained about excessive noise from a mosque in her constituency. That is not a race or a religious issue; it is a planning issue.

Similarly, a journalist was arrested under the ISA for accurately reporting the racist remarks of a member of the ruling party. Essentially, she was arrested for being a good journalist, something in short supply in Malaysia. The party official was not arrested, although he was suspended.

A blogger was arrested for apparently exhibiting the Malaysian flag on his website upside down. I kid you not.

But perhaps Abdullah's saddest misstep has been the arrest of Raja Petra Kamarudin, who runs the hugely popular Malaysia Today website, which exposes wrongdoers in public life and provides a forum for robust political debate otherwise denied to Malaysians.

On September 23, Syed Hamid Albar, the Home Affairs Minister, signed the order for Raja Petra's detention without trial for two years. The order can be renewed indefinitely. Ostensibly, Raja Petra, a Muslim, was arrested for posting blogs that belittled Islam. The reality of course is that Raja Petra had belittled the Government. No longer can he post blogs that challenge the Government and blow the whistle on corruption and other wrongdoings on the part of Government officials.

Raja Petra appeared in court on Monday on a separate sedition charge. He was handcuffed, which is apt: you can't write if you're handcuffed.

Raja Petra knew that he could well be arrested and yet he continued. This sort of selflessness is all too rare in Malaysia.

Even Mahathir Mohamed, Malaysia's previous prime minister - who incidentally will be speaking at a seminar at Melbourne University on Saturday - has criticised the recent ISA arrests as unnecessary and excessive.

Perhaps such arrests are warranted in a country dangerously on the edge of racial and religious meltdown. But Malaysia is not.

The truth is, the Malaysian Government is the biggest source of ethnic and religious tension in Malaysia. It has an interest in constantly harping on about race, using imagined communal tensions as an excuse for its use of the ISA, to control the media and, above all, to head off threats to its own power. The race issue is manipulated not to protect Malaysians from each other but to protect the Government from opposition.

But the cracks are showing. Malaysia has never had a government this unpopular. Abdullah has said that he will leave office early but he refuses to resign. Najib Tun Razak, his deputy, is congenial enough but he is no leader. And then there's Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar is offering himself as head of an alternative government, but he is proving to be politically incompetent. He announced that the Government would fall on September 16, because by then he thought he'd have the numbers - enough MPs prepared to leave the Government and join the Opposition. The day came and nothing happened. The golden rule of politics? Don't telegraph your punches, just punch.

Anwar has a lot of baggage too, so, at a time when Malaysia needs clever leadership more than ever, the sad choice is between who stinks less.
